Our Doctors

Barbara Sheffield, D.V.M.


Dr. Barbara Sheffield earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Florida in 1984. Her ethic and dedication placed her in the Phi Zeta Honorary Society.

Dr. Sheffield has owned and worked at several practices in Florida, North Carolina and Virginia. She served as a relief veterinarian throughout Hampton Roads since 2007, networking and building her strong reputation throughout the area.
Along with her love for small animal medicine, Dr. Sheffield is also an avid equestrian breeder and trainer. She and her horses have been awarded multiple International Hunter Futurity and National Championships. She, her husband, David, and her three children live in the Pungo area of Virginia Beach.

Lisa Hundley, D.V.M.

Dr. Hundley brings much enthusiasm and 25 years of clinical experience to our practice. Being a native of Virginia Beach, Dr. Hundley in her Veterinary years, has established and developed a client/patient bond with many close to her. She enjoys surgery and internal medicine. She is an asset to the team and we are glad to have her aboard!

Dr. Hundley lives in Virginia Beach with her family (Joe, Ian and Sophie), their two dogs, a turtle and many fish. Her hobbies are spending time with her family at the beach, camping, surfing, reading and cooking. 

Karen Smithwick, D.V.M.

Dr. Smithwick is a 1995 graduate of the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. She enjoys Emergency & Critical Care Medicine.

Dr. Smithwick, a Portsmouth native and her husband (also a Veterinarian) live in Virginia Beach with their three children, dogs, cats, fish and a bird. Her hobbies include gardening, hiking and reading.

Our Veterinary Technicians 

Lisa, LVT

Lisa has been a Licensed Veterinary Technician since 1984. She is married and has two grown sons. In addition to her human family, she also has 4 rescued animal family members; 2 dogs, Bria, a Collie, and Sophie, a Foxhound, 1 cat named Dog Dog (yes, you read that right,) and a king snake named Oreo.


 Katie has 8 years experience in the veterinary field including kennel, reception and assisting.She graduated Vet Tech school in May of 2017. Katie loves all animals. She currently has 2 cats, Snitch and Blaise, and a rabbit named Luna who live with her in Chesapeake. Katie loves spending time with family and friends.

Leslie moved to Virginia Beach from Puerto Rico in 2001. She is a gamer and a party-planner who loves spending time with her 4 year old daughter Leiah and reading in her spare time. She loves cooking and growing her own vegetables and tacos are her favorite food. Leslie is an animal lover, and has rescued five stray kittens in the last year.  


Jess moved to Virginia Beach three years ago from Georgia with her husband and two fur babies, a Dane-mix named Remus and a Pomeranian named Bear. She graduated in 2010 from Georgia Southern University with a degree in Journalism before falling in love with veterinary medicine. In her off time, Jess is an avid DIY-er who loves farmhouse décor and Harry Potter. She wants to be a Veterinarian when she grows up.  



A horse enthusiast, Dannon loves to ride and show off-the-track thoroughbreds. She grew up in Mississippi where she graduated in 2013. Dannon has three pups, a Husky named Jax (Drogon), a Mini Poodle named Lulu (Rhaegal) and Charlie, a standard poodle (Viserion). Dannon once ate an entire jar of pickles in one sitting. On her off time, Dannon can be found doing Crossfit, biking or binge-watching Game of Thrones.


A native New Yorker, Taylor loves to kayak, bike ride, bake and do crafts. She is obsessed with Target, and once visited the store three times in one day! She has two cats, Sasha the blue-eyed model, and Jovie, the elf who live with her and her family. She loves 90's nostalgia and can quote every episode of Full House. Taylor is our cat whisperer, and can calm even the most nervous fur baby.  



Administrative Assistant



Emily is an "outdoors" type of gal and enjoys camping. She has a very busy home life: a husband, Jay, a daughter, Meredith, their son, Bruce and four cats; Nader, Tootsie, Pork, and Rumpel.
